Shows Hakujisso Hakusho (Chin. Bai Sheng) subduing a giant bird with a bamboo pole. From a set Suikoden goketsu kagami, “Mirror of Heroes of the Suikoden” published by Yamaguchiya Tobei, 1856. This is the first edition with gradation on the bird’s beak and elsewhere and the signature cartouche printed in red. Later editions lack these refinements.
Very fine impression. Fine colour. Slightly trimmed, otherwise very good condition. Signed Ichibaisai Yoshiharu ga.

A fearsome beast looking over the shoulder of Senkaiji Chojun. One of a set Suikoden goketsu kagami, “Mirror of Heroes of the Suikoden.” The set published in conjuction with Yoshitaki and Yoshitsuya by Yamaguchiya Tobei, 1856.
Fine impression of the first edition with variegated cartouche. Fine colour. Trimmed at bottom, otherwise fine condition. Signed Ichibaisai Yoshiharu ga.

The brigand Rori Hakucho Chojun from the set Suikoden goketsu kagami, “Mirror of the Heroes of the Suikoden.” A set mirrored on Kuniyoshi’s earlier Suikoden set. Shows him, with heavily tattooed torso and wielding a sword, defending himself against a dragon. Published by Yamaguchiya Tobei, 1856.
Fine impression and colour. Slight trimming top and bottom, otherwise very good condition. Signed Ichibaisai Yoshiharu ga.

A triptych showing a large elephant being inspected, watered and fed by foreigners. Ikoku watari taizo no zu. “Picture of a Big Elephant Brought from Overseas.” Beside the title in a box are the details of the animal: Three years old this year (1868); length 6 metres 38 cms; length of nose 3 metres 4 cms; tall 3 metres 76 cms; weight 2800 me. Published by Yamaguchiya Tobei. Rare: Not in any of the standard Yokohama books.

A Chinese brigand, Hakujisso Hakusho, fighting a giant rooster from Suikoden gogetsu kagami, “Mirror of Heroes of the Suikoden.” Yoshiharu was a pupil of Kuniyoshi. Published by Yamaguchiya Tobei.
Fine impression with extensive burnishing on the rooster. Fine colour and condition. Signed Ipposai Yoshiharu ga.
